Pros: S-VHS picture quality, built in features.
Cons: Slightly higher price than other four head hi-fi VCRs but if higher picture quality is desirable, it may be worth it.

| IACSPRES's Full Review: Sharp VC-S100U S-VHS VCR |
Without a doubt, the Sharp's top-of-the-line, S-VHS VCR, model VC-S100U shows a command performance ahead of other comparable 4-head, hi-fi VCRs.
The S-VHS unit, with its 19-micron heads, delivers brighter colors and more vivid images with 360 lines of horizontal resolution as opposed to the normal 240 lines for standard VHS.
This unit can play and record in both standard VHS format and the higher resolution, higher quality Super VHS format (S-VHS) with S-VHS-ET format (Expansion Technology). This technology provides a superior playback picture quality which comes closer to DVD playback quality. You can record on standard quality VHS tapes using the unit's S-VHS-ET format and on higher resolution capable S-VHS tapes with the unit's standard, high quality, S-VHS format.
The Sharp VC-S100U also packs a considerable number of additional features including VCR Plus+ with cable box control programming convenience, 3D digital noise reduction, channel programmable auto clock setting, variable speed slow motion, flicker free frame pause, auto head cleaner, tamper proof child settings, and rapid rewind (360x). Additional features of considerable interest are the units commercial skip capabilities and especially useful is the unit's forward and reverse index search/find. This feature allows you to instantly find any recorded segment on the tape. With this especially important feature, you can store multiple recordings on one tape. With the touch of a button, this unit will either fast forward or reverse to the start of the recording segment your looking for on any tape recorded by this unit.
After careful investigation and comparison to almost all of the other comparable S-VHS VCR models available on the market today, this consumer found the Sharp VC-S100U to be a great quality product in a terrific price range that met all of my expectations.
If having the highest possible video resolution available in a home VCR unit is important to you, then the Sharp VC-S100U is a VCR unit you should definitely consider in your buying research.
