| Tricia30's Full Review: RCA Lyra RD2204 (64 MB) MP3 Player |
I admit it I had MP3 Player Envy. Everytime I went to the gym I noticed people with these incredibly small players enjoying their skip free music. I tried many options, I listened to the radio, but really wanted to pick my own tunes. I burned a few CD's but my CD player is old and doesn't have the anti-shock feature so that was a waste of time. I even tried resurrecting my cassette player but it just wasn't what I wanted. So after months of lusting after MP3 players and debating whether to buy my own or simply replace my CD player, I saw the RCA Lyra on sale for $149 and I took the plunge and bought the 32mb Player.
I have been very happy with my player. I brought it home and hooked up the included compact flash card reader. The instructions were easy and in no time at all I was loading up the included software (Real Jukebox) and picking which songs to load onto my player. The first time I used it I was a bit disappointed because I could only get 7 songs on one Compact Flash Card. I was very impressed with the quality of sound though. The next day I decided to dig in and read the manual because they had advertised fitting up to 20 songs on one card after all. I discovered that I could change the compression levels and fit more songs on the card that way. I have fit up to 17 songs on the player to date without losing much sound quality at all.
The player is small and extremely lightweight and comes with a handy belt clip that makes it easy to hook it on and head to the gym. The sound quality is good and the volume goes louder than I will ever need it. The included RCA headphones provide great sound but are a bit bulky, I prefer my SONY foldable earbuds.
All in all the RCA Lyra was a great buy for me. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a lightweight, skip free, portable music alternative. If you are what I call a "stereo snob" meaning that exceptional sound quality is important to you, then this might not be the player for you. (My husband is a stereo snob!)
