| moneymaker2000's Full Review: Time Warner Cable |
I've been a subscriber to Time Warner Cable for many years and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm paying all this money for? And as if it isn't bad enough that they raise the cable rates just about every year, it seems finding something good to watch is becoming increasingly more difficult as well!
Since I love watching television almost as much as I love playing on my computer, I continue to be a customer of theirs but not because I like their service but because, in our area, we have no other options! The variety of programs has gone steadily downhill unless you're a sports lover because over 50% of the programming is sports of some kind.
Even with networks like ESPN, EPSN2, FSNE, NESN & GOLF, they still manage to throw sports on every major network that will air it. On the weekends, instead of getting a variety of programs on channels 6, 10 & 13, there's golf, baseball, football, figure skating and many more sporting activities too numerous to name.
Now, don't get me wrong because I do like sports but I don't love sports and since they already have many channels that are considered sports channels, I can't understand why so many other networks air sports all the time. I'm sure ratings has a lot to do with it but am I the only one that is bothered by this?
I'm not happy about it but they're the only game in town...so to speak! One cable company, one choice so when they introduced Digital Cable, I thought that this may be the way to go! Still the same cable company but they offered better reception with a lot of extra channels so I ordered it!
After they came down and installed the new box and gave me a crash course on how to use the remote, they went on their way and left me to enjoy my new cable. After going through all the channels several times, I was scratching my head trying to figure out why I even ordered it!!
Although you do over 40 music channels to suit everyone's tastes, I saw nothing else to convince me that I made the right choice! In addition to the basic networks, they give me channels that I'll never watch like PUB, EDUC & GOVT just to name a few! The reception, in my opinion, was worse than before and when I questioned this, they said that the software wasn't fully developed yet or some such excuse and told me that it would get better but after three months, it hasn't!
Recently I called the cable company to tell them that I didn't see any difference in reception yet and that channels like PAX-TV wouldn't stay in for more than 10 minutes at a time! It was explained to me at that time that only the premium and pay per view channels were digital and that losing channels was the fault of that particular network.
Let's review for a moment...shall we? Digital Cable is only good on channels that I don't have and it was stupid of me to think that all the channels would be better...like they advertised! Not getting channels is not the fault of the cable company even though I pay them all this money every month! And if I'm unhappy with my reception, I can either just deal with it or cancel my subscription.
In looking back over the years, I now realize that even with over 150 channels, I still find myself watching 6, 10 & 13 which you can view even without cable. My thoughts were to just go without it and just watch the three but they conveniently took some of my favorite shows and put them on the upper channels so I'm forced to pay the overpriced rates that they charge! The game show network is one of my favorites channels to watch but to view it, I have to have digital cable because in our area, it's broadcast on channel 161.
For those of you that don't have cable, I was paying about $42.00 per month before I went digital and am now paying about $46.00 which is only a $4.00 difference. My biggest gripe with cable is that unless you're into sports or current events, the different programs that are available is limited and with all these channels, it should not be!
I will say, in their behalf, that the people that work there are always very friendly and their prompt delivery of cable service is all they advertise it to be. They do get a little bit upset when you complain about their programming but, I guess, that's to be expected. I just think that for what you pay for cable, they should be offering more of a variety thus giving people more value for their money.
