| dmentia777's Full Review: College Student Card (Capital One) |
As a college student with almost no income, I was hard pressed to find a credit card that: 1) didn't require an annual fee; 2) didn't require a security deposit (secured card)
The Capital One student card was the answer. No annual fee, a decent credit limit to start with (enough to buy books with), no hassles, no troubles.
When I signed on - with little credit history - I knew the interest rate would be outrageous. That's part of the game. When you have no credit or bad credit, you're a risk to any lender. If you get a card like this one and build good credit, you'll have the financial world at your feet.
Tips for people thinking about getting this card:
1) Get it for the purpose of building credit.
2) Do not get cash advances. Do not use convenience checks.
3) Do not max the card out.
4) Pay the card off every month, EVERY month.
Use this card as a convenience or to get groceries at the end of the month before your next paycheck. Don't use it to make huge purchases with the intent of never paying it off.
Also, online payments are great, too. If I log on before 12pm (pacific time), my payment posts the same day. Extremely convenient for making last-minute payments.
