| jnbmom's Full Review: Visa Classic (Providian Bank) |
While trying to build myself a credit history I applied and received a card for Providian, their Aria visa. I was very happy to have a bank let me build credit with them, and even though I never had a credit history, they gave me a chance.
Of course after receiving this card, my mailbox started getting full of all kinds of offers. I weeded through the bad ones and did manage to pick out a few good ones, then I received an offer from Providian yet again, but this time for their classic card. I should have listened to my tiny little voice that reminded me that I already had a pretty good card from them, but I wanted to build some good tradelines and thought this wouldn't hurt me, BOY was I wrong.
So being foolish I went ahead and applied for the second card, and received in a few short weeks. I then received a phone call from them telling me that is was against their company policy for me to have 2 accounts with their bank, and that they will going to close this account. I told them that was fine and they told me to cut up the card and I didn't owe anything unless I had used the card prior to it being closed. I never activated the card , so I never did use it, I thought this was the end of it and I was assured they would just put closed by consumer.
Well about a month after my conversation with them, I received a bill for an annual fee of 59.00, I called and was told my account was closed at my request and to disregard the bill. Word to the wise, never listen to a customer service rep. and take their word to disregard a bill, this was my second mistake. But foolishly I listened and did nothing, about a month later I receive another bill not only for the annual fee but now I was charged a late fee of 29.00. I immediately called again and this time requested a supervisor, I was told the very same thing and I was assured this would be taken care of.
I finally got another bill stating that I owed nothing, I was glad this was finally resolved or was it??
A few months later I had been shopping around for a mortgage loan, and wanted to check my credit reports to see where I stood before I began this process. And low and behold what do you think I found on my credit report? My account was on there, marked closed by consumer but they reported me for being 30 days late, I was shocked to say the least.
So now I am back on the phone with them trying to get this resolved. They really put you through the ringer trying to reach the right department that you need to address your problems. When I finally reached who I needed to speak with, they once again assured me that this would be taken care of. Well it has been 4 months and I am still trying to resolve this matter. I have sent certified mail and have called them numerous times, but so far I have not been able to get them to remove this false information.
I really would warn you to stay away from this particular card from Providian, it has caused me nothing but trouble. I just don't understand why it is so hard for them to straighten out this mess. But I will continue to be persistent on this matter until I do get it resolved.
