I need not and would not if I found myself to be in that position, EVER use the "services" of this company. Why, might you ask? Because I worked there and know what it is like.
I worked for the Amerix Corporation for over two years and watched as the company grew from one genuinely concerned about it's members, to one genuinely concerned with their own bottom line. At the outset of my tenure, the company seemed to be filled with people who truly recognized the value of the service they provided, and saw it almost as if it was their personal mission to make the quality of life better for their clients.
Within what seemed to me to be a short period of time, the company, (while watching their own ship sink), grew into one more focused on increasing the number of customers, and getting the first payment (of which they get a portion), than adequately serving those they already had. I have witnessed personally as customers were routinely "misled", not fully informed about the "bad side" of credit counseling, and often found themselves in a position worse than when they initially called us. Doubt what I'm saying? Dial the 800 number on the back of one of your credit cards, and ask their opinion of the Amerix Corporation!
This is not all to say that debt management or credit counseling is inherently negative, but the Amerix Corporation seems to have lost it's way (along with a number of highly experienced and salaried executives who have left the company, presumably to "pursue other interest").
The best part of this company is the staff of dedicated and highly intelligent front line staff, who seek to provide the better quality of life I mentioned. Converesly, the worst side is that these same people are ham-stringed by protocols that effectively keep them from doing what they are paid to do, COUNSEL!!!
Anyone of the hundreds of people working there (not to mention those recently let go due to budgetary concerns) would tell you "credit counseling can work. You simply need to have an informed customer, with a clear picture of what to expect." Given that, anyone who truly needs to regain financial control, will do just that. The sad fact is that probably the majority of those in the program, do not need credit counseling. They have come into it wanting lower rates, lower payments, and such. They fail to realize, or more to the point are not advised that these benefits come at a cost to future credit worthiness, and current ability to use credit. This point is glossed over in the introduction phase of the program, while the LOWER INTEREST AND LOWER PAYMENT aspect is dangled as if it were a carrot.
Anyone knows that a person in desperate need of this manner of assistance will hear only what they want. All I can say is that if you call the Amerix Corporation, I hope that you hear what you NEED TO HEAR, and not what you WANT TO HEAR think.
One last thought, my wife is with the new year approaching, trying to seek out new opportunities. Can you guess where she works now?
