TCF was a reasonably priced bank with good hours near my home. Though not overly friendly, I got along ok with the management. Then my purse was stolen along with checkbooks from two separate banks. I was clueless on how to handle this. Apparently the employee from TCF was too, because she gave me no direction. Before I knew it, my account was several hundred dollars overdrawn. (I did not know that someone could actually pretend to be me, and cash my checks w/out proper ID) Well the staff at TCF was rude, unhelpful, and did not have me get all paperwork properly notarized. They missed getting some paperwork done, and then because they SAID that they could not get in touch with me (phone? I had one and they had the number) they closed my account and reported my overdrawn status and NCF checks to Chex Systems. I have never had a bounced check in my life until now, and I cannot get another account anywhere. TCF is rude and unhelpful and they do NOT care about the consumer.
