| Kellygrn's Full Review: TCF National Bank Minnesota |
I have banked with TCF for the last 7 years (I believe), and I have been pretty satisfied with the experience. At this point, I just have a checking account. (I at one point had a savings account as well, but found once I entered college, I couldn't keep the minimum balance in my account due to paying for tuition and such)
I initially picked TCF for my checking accounts due to all of their open hours; A cub foods was built really close to me and there's a TCF inside that is open much longer than the Norwest in my area. Being a high school student at the time, it make it really convenient for me, because I was often unable to make it to the bank during the typical banking hours of many other banks. (I had a savings account at Norwest bank and it was open until 5 during the week, and only from 12 to 5 on Saturdays. TCJ however, was open until 8 or 9 during the week and until 6 on saturdays- and I believe on Sundays too)
I have a totally free checking account, and it has been completely free. I actually didn't really think anything of that until I was considering openeing another checking account in Madison, Wisconsin, where I currently go to school. However, every place I went to charged for lots of extra things, for example having a check/atm card, and returning the cancelled checks with the statement. It was at this point that I realized how nice my TCF account was. Some of the things I like about my checking account are:
-My visa check card (or atm card, whichever I prefer) for unlimited use; it's free, and I just recieved a phone card in the mail that accululates minutes whenever I use the check card.
-my cancelled checks in the mail with my monthly statements (I think this is nice to have as a record)
-The use of the automated telephone system (I use it all the time to check my balance, get information on cleared checks and transactions since the last statement, and it also comes in handy since my mother also has a TCF accound; that way if I need money for school, she can transfer it right to my account over the phone.
-The large amount of available TCF's in the MN area (in pretty much every cub food store)
-The available open hours of the bank
Serivicewise, I haven't run into any problems. THere have been a few times where I have run into problems with my account though, (due to various lapses in checkbook balancing) and the 28$ fee for each check that you dont have fund for can add up really quick. But the people working there and on the phone line have always been really helpful, and have helped me to straighten things out.
As of yet, they are not online in terms of banking (Although they have an informational site); this is the only thing I really wish they had available.
