| Foxley's Full Review: Harvest Moon 2 for Game Boy Color |
A huge step up from the first Harvest Moon for Game Boy, Harvest Moon GBC 2 is great growth for the series. It seems to very related to the others - you know, care for the cows, feed the chickens, water the crops, and visit town. Just like ALL of the other Harvest Moon games. However, this one has quite a few differences that can keep anyone interested.
Lemme start from the beginning. Harvest Moon is a farming game. You can do a number of things. You'll need to use your Hammer to bash up rocks, your ax to chop up stumps of wood, your sickle to cut down grass, your hoe to plow the soil, and your watering can to water the seeds you plant. You will also be able to visit Flower Bud Village, and the mountains, too.
Flower Bud Village has pretty much everything you need. There's a Church, where you will be able to pray and talk to the Priest, Kain. There's the mayor's house, where the mayor will inspire you to work hard. There's the woodsman's shop, where you can hire the wood master to do a number of things, such as build a bridge or make a sheep pen for you.
Rosie owns the restaurant, where you can buy meat buns, juices, croissants, and rice balls. You can stop by the Tool Shop, which sells all kinds of inventions. The plant shop sells grass, flower, and plant seeds for planting on your farm. The livestock building sells chickens, cows, and sheep, as well as medicine and the like. Finally, Marie's library has all sorts of assorted information.
The mountain changed from season to season. You can find different bugs (which you may catch with a Bug-catching net, bought from the Tool Shop) in different seasons, as well as different foods. Find Berries in Spring, Cherries in Summer, and Mushrooms in Fall. Unfortunetly, nothing grows in Winter, but that just means you can spend extra time chopping wood. Different plants grow in different seasons, and these may also depend on which gender your character is. The boy can grow tomatoes and melons in Summer. The girl can also grow melons, but instead of tomatoes, she gets corn. Don't worry, though - it all balances out in the end. The girl tends to make a little more money off of her crops, but they take longer to grow. The boy's crops grow a little bit quicker, but he gets slightly less money. Don't make this a big deal, though - just choose whichever gender you'd like!
You can also choose between a dog or a cat. The dog will chase off wild animals, but the cat will occasionally give you seeds which you can use to plant instead of having to buy them at the store.
You can also fish by going to the water's edge and using your fishing pole. Fishing is an excellent way to get extra money, especially if you get lucky and find lots of big fish!
All in all, this game was fun to play. It's the perfect 'CD' game - few things are more relaxing than chillin' on the sofa, listening to your CD player and playing this game. Try it sometime!
