| JulieLMatthews's Full Review: Harvest Moon 2 for Game Boy Color |
For anyone who loved the B/W Harvest Moon for Game Boy, you will fall in love all over again with Harvest Moon 2!
The game gives you lots more this time around. You not only get 2 save files with this one (Harvest Moon just gave you 1), you get to build a hothouse and breed and raise sheep along with the cows and chickens. Oh, and you can fish for several different species of fish, plus there’s a net you can buy to catch bugs. The bugs don’t “net” any profit like fish do, but every new species is logged in a book at the library. Your fish will be logged in a book too. It gives you a trade option like the first game and you can trade livestock, flower seed, fish and bugs with a friend. I don’t understand trading bugs but what do I know?
The layout of the farm and little town is different, plus you have the mountain area to forage for berries or mushrooms until you are more financially set. The mountain area is set up similar to the Super Nintendo version. You have your own lake to fish from and there are no sprites to talk to that I have found. The tool upgrades come from people in town instead of the sprites.
There are some different crops to grow – Napa and yams are two. It depends on your character’s gender as to what you can grow. I set up a boy on one save file and a girl on the other so I could eventually grow everything!
Warning - this game is highly addictive because it is that much fun. Natsume did a great job with this cartridge. There are more additions to your house you can have built plus, all through the year there are special events and festivals you can attend.
I love this game and I would recommend it to people from 7 to 70.
