ChaosJedi's Full Review: Golden Eye 007 for Nintendo 64
Simply put, this is the best game I have ever seen so far for a console system. Period. I mean, who wouldn't want to be James Bond? Who wouldn't like to shoot through massive military instillations and take a crack at the former Soviet Union? This game lets you do just that. As Bond, you blast through immense, extremly well detailed and designed levels with a massive assortment of realistic, modern weapons. The game takes you through several different locations, from the Arkengelsk Dam and the Severnaya Bunkers in Russia, to the French Frigate La Feyette in Monte Carlo, through the Archives and Statue Park of St. Petersburg, and finally a pulse pounding race through the jungles and underground installations of Cuba before the final match against the former 006, Alec Trevelyan. With three difficulty levels, two hidden levels, and attainable Multi-Player levels, characters and cheats, this game's got a lot to offer.
The graphics are fantastic. The enemies all have different facial expressions, and the main characters are accurately modeled after the movie. The guns fire with realistic recoil and reload time, and the explosions are pretty to look at. Another large plus is the injury and death throes. When shot, and enemy grabs the injured spot. If shot fatally (Head) he goes down, hard. And of course, you get the usual selection of Q Gadgets.
The Multi-Player option is the best feature of Goldeneye. It keeps you interested long after you've beaten the main missions. This is THE party game. I don't care what people say, my friends and I think it's much more fun to go around shooting each other than anything else. This is also one of the most accurately made games that evolved from a movie. The levels are modeled exactly after what the location looked like in the movie. United Artists would be proud! It's a wonderful, exciting feature that just keeps on giving, all year round. This is the best game for N64, and I expect it to remain that way for a long, long time. Kodos to the folks at RARE Industries and Nintendo for this one!
