| jmattingly73's Full Review: Bass Landing with Fishing Controller for PlayStati... |
Agetec did a good job with this one. Bass Landing is the best fishing game I have come across. The realism is superb. I've seen with other fishing games that were not realistic at all. Pretty much anyone can just fish away without not even knowing what fishing involves. But Bass Landing actually does require some knowledge of fishing.
I don't need any lessons. I could figure that out on my own
I'm sure you have all heard this one. I'm the same way when it comes to video games. I usually figure out the techniques involved on my own. So I decided to by-pass the tutorial and go directly into fishing. Talk about being lost. There were different types of rods, reels, and lures. I didn't know what this stuff was. I couldn't catch one single fish. If my supper was depending on this, I would be awfully hungry.
The tutorial is a great tool.
After not catching a fish, I decided to go back to school. There you learn how to cast about 4 different ways, learn what each lure does and when to use them, and various other techniques as far as luring fish and hooking them.
Game play is so real, I thought I was Bill Dance
The game play is very nice on this game. You can choose from several different lakes and you choose the exact spot on the lake that you want to fish. Each time is different because the water temperature may be hotter or colder, the wind may be blowing, or even the seasons determine how you will do. After taking the tutorial, I started to catch a few fish. Just a few though. I still need to work on my techniques.
Controllers
I bought my game used at the video store so I don't know anything about the fishing rod controller(because they didn't have it) that came with the game. I'm trying to find one on e-bay or some other site so that I may enjoy the full benefits of this game. I use the Nyko Scorpion pad. You use the meter on the screen(kind of like a golf game) to determine how far that you throw out the line. You start by pressing the x button. When the marker is in the red area, you push the x button again. You push the x button the third time to stop the string. When a fish strikes, the pad vibrates and almost feels like a real fish biting. There are four different types of cast to choose from. Use the L1 button to choose either a overcast, side-cast, pitching, or skipping cast. You use the R1 button to control the drag on the reel. After you casted the line, use the X button to reel it in. By pressing L2 + X, the line will reel faster. L1 + X makes it reel slower. So, if you don't have the fish rod controller like me, the game can still be very fun.
Summary
As I said before, I'm still new with the game and have a lot of learning to do, but I think that this game will keep me busy for a very long time. It would make a perfect gift for the outdoorsman in your household. If you like fishing, buy the game. It's worth it.
