jedi8524's Full Review: Um Jammer Lammy for PlayStation 1
I heard the game Parappa the Rapper was one of the best games for the Sony Playstation. I was able to play the demo, and I had to admit that it was a pleasant change of pace. I never purchased the game for the fact that I had bigger and better games to buy.
A couple of years later, Sony released the sequel call Um Jammer Lammy. Once again, it received rave reviews, but I had no intentions of buying it. When I found it for $5 at Target, I really had no other excuse. I bought it and played as soon as I got home.
The title's main character is Lammy, the lead guitarist of the rock band Milk Can. While having a most unnerving dream, she wakes up to realize she has 15 minutes to make it to the concert. Along the way she meets up with numerous obstacles where she must play her guitar to proceed. Every instance is different and ranges from jazz to heavy metal.
My family and I have a lot of fun playing the game continuously. While the kids try to surpass the easier levels, my wife and I compete to see who can go farther.
The game requires a lot of dexterity for a videogame. In order to play a level, you must play the song but hitting the appropriate buttons at the right time. If you do it right, you receive a higher score. If you do poorly, you lose points until the game tells you to start over. It is very easy to start off doing well, only to lose track of rhythm and lose it all. The farther you progress in the game, the harder it gets.
My only problem with the game is that some of the button sequences to play the game correctly are nearly impossible to accomplish. With four buttons and one thumb to hit them repeatedly, the odds are against you. I don't mean to discourage, but practice is definitely needed to play this game.
The game is pure fun, I recommend it to anyone that wants to play a game that will keep you glue to your television for hours!
