Pros: The top rack is removeable & lower rack allows for oversized objects.
Cons: Doesn't clean the dishes at all & Whirlpool is very difficult to deal with.
The Bottom Line: While the machine is easy to load and attractive, it doesn't do it's job. Leaves dishes cloudy.

We purchased this machine because of the great inner design and the consumer reports spoke highly of it.
We purchased this machine in April and have had it serviced 10 times in the past 5 1/2 months to no avail. From the first load washed the machine has left a cloudy film on the dishes. It rinses off in the sink with some scrubbing. However, having to wash the dishes once they come right out of the dishwasher gets very frustrating. The cycle time that comes up and reads that it will take an estimated 90 minutes to run a load actually runs for about three hours. That doesn't seem very energy and water efficient to me. Also, the silverware holder has an "easy unload" door that comes open too easily and spills the silver out onto the washer door, floor, and counter when attempting to move the holder by the handle.
The store we purchased it from only had a 30 day return policy and by the time we managed to get the first Whirlpool service technician out we had passed the 30 days. Whirlpool tells us that they cannot replace the machine unless a technician says that the machine is defective. Sounds easy enough! But, the technicians still will not say that the machine is defective. We've been told that the film is caused by hard water, from the soap leaving a residue, and from the water from our tap not being hot enough even though it currently comes out above Whirlpool's suggested 120 degrees farenheight. Technicians have suggested using less soap, more soap, more rinse-aid, less rinse-aid, different brands of soap, powder soaps rather than liquid soaps, and continue to tell us that our brand new water heater must be the problem even though the temperature of the water coming from the sink is at their suggested range. This same water heater supplies the water for the other unit in this building and our neighbors have no trouble with their new Maytag dishwasher that was a comparable price. The technicians have replaced the heating element, thermostat, thermoster, control panel, a water valve, and have reinstalled the machine using different electrical caps. None of this has worked. You can see the white build up on the heating element and it rubs off on your fingers while handling the dishes when removing them from the machine. I've tried following their suggestion of running white vinegar in the machine to eliminate the problem, but it still persists. I've even scrubbed the machine out with a bucket of clean hot water by hand and after the next run of dishes, the film was back. The last technician finally ordered a replacement motor and explained that the motor may not fix the problem, but still refused to call Whirlpool and tell them that the machine was defective. After missing over 4 full days of work to meet with their technicians and countless calls to Whirlpool, I have managed to get them to agree it needs to be replaced. I'm still within the one year warranty so they made an offer to replace it with a Model GU2500XTP, but I'm waiting to hear back on whether or not they'll buy it back so that I can get a different brand of machine. This was our first Whirlpool and it will be our last after this goose chase.
FYI: We purchased the machine for $450 on a store special and Whirlpool has already paid over $500 for the repair parts and labor. They only agreed to replace it because the last technician ordered the $200 motor and said that he would have to also charge for installation and that it may not even fix the problem. I think the worst cost in all this, aside from the time I've missed work, is the time we miss because we have to wash our dishes when they come out of the dishwasher.
This is an update as of 10/18/05: Whirlpool has agreed to buy back the machine. I don't know how long the process will take and how it all works yet, but I will update this when I do. All I know right now is that I need to fax them a copy of my receipt.
