I'll start out by saying I don't know much about blenders or food processors. My family had neither growing up, so I've never had a chance to use them. Well, my husband went on a diet and figured he'd make himself some protein smoothies or something, which he had to buy a blender for. He did a lot of research on the internet using his various sources. Deja and cooking.com were his main sources of information for a blender.
After much thought he informed me we are getting the Cuisinart Smart Power Duet Blender/Food Processor BFP-703. OK. Fine by me. Then he told me the price. I thought it was a bit high since you can buy many blenders for $30 at a lot of department stores. But again, I don't know much about blenders. I think the fact that it was a blender/food processor combo that tantalized my husband the most.
Now we've had it for a month or so, what do I think of it? I've only used it once or twice, and I've watched my husband make plenty of smoothies with it. It has a lot of buttons to do many things. My husband read the instructions once and knows how to use all of them. I didn't bother reading the instructions, just pushed buttons that I had seen my husband push. It seemed to work well, although a read through of the instructions would probably help quite a bit.
I like the large pitcher that comes with it. My husband tends to over-add ingredients, making much more than his original intention. Having a large pitcher to accommodate makes the mess less and clean up easier for me. Everything is dishwasher safe, except the electrical base, which wipes up easily. I don't stick the o-ring in the dishwasher because I don't trust that not to end up in dishwasher heaven. Everything comes apart to put in the dishwasher and get thoroughly clean.
Most of all, I like the instruction booklet. It is long. There are the initial things you find in an instruction booklet: parts, how-to work, etc. However, this instruction booklet then goes on to give some sample recipes in several different categories: smoothies, other drinks, and some food! I'm especially impressed with the baby food recipes. I thought this was great since I am interested in making my own baby food more than buying the stuff in the store. These recipes are easy enough that making your own baby food does not seem like much work that it can seem like.
Overall, this is a good blender. It's possible that you could get all the features in a less expensive model, but I don't actually know for sure.
