goatboy72's Full Review: George Foreman GR26CB XL Indoor Grill
Dinner tonight is Foreman-grilled hamburgers. Maybe some grilled onions, mushrooms, whatnot. It's easy! Just plug in the Foreman, plop the meat down on it, and keep an eye on things. Needless to say, I'm excited.
I'm going to try my hardest not to sound like an infomercial here, but I really do love this grill.
You've already heard the what's what about the reduction of fat on the Foreman, how so much excess rolls down the non-stick surface into a convenient little fat-catchin' tray. Although this is nice, and I feel better about myself when I see how much greasiness I'm not ingesting, but it really isn't a selling point for me. What sold me is that it cooks my frozen goodness quickly, as does a microwave, but, instead of a gross soggy lump of breaded chicken, I've got a delightfully crisp, sandwich-ready patty. It's easy!
In my eschewing of the microwave [not a health issue, I just don't like it as much], I've discovered that the Foreman is great for cooking loads of things that my friends think are weird to grill: burritos, corn dogs, French fries, vegetables, sausage, Spam, sandwiches, pizza rolls, garlic bread, and so on. Pretty much anything that isn't liquid, or going to melt, I find fairly grillable. You aren't able to adjust the heat, but that's never been a problem for me, things always cook through well before the outside approaches burning. This is likely due to the limited reach of the Foreman's jaws.
Clean up is no big deal. The grill is non-stick, so there isn't too much that can't be gotten off by simply wiping with a paper towel, maybe needing a little spray of water. The fat-catcher tray is dishwasherable, so that's easily dealt with.
The big question: Why this model?
Well, compared to other models of the Foreman, this one is on the lower end of the price range, while still being fairly large [about four burgers' worth of cooking space]. There are a few grills with more features -- removable grills for easier washings, interchangeable waffle/sandwich/griddle/etc. plates, and such, but this one has all you really need for the Foreman's advantages.
