| profesadora's Full Review: Frigidaire FWT449 Washer |
Two years ago we designed a double laundry room so that I could do the family's laundry faster and get to bed before midnight. That meant buying new washers and putting the old, reliable Maytag to pasture because it used too much energy, water, and detergent and had been destroying our clothes for over 12 years.
After much research, we selected the Frigidaire front loader, and they have been a joy to operate. Now I do two loads and can run them through our two gas dryers much faster than before. If you have limited space, you can stack the washer and dryer.
I've learned several things using these washers. Arm and Hammer liquid detergent is inexpensive and works just fine if about 1/3 of a cup is used (according to Frigidaire's customer service rep.) You don't need to buy the expensive high efficiency (HE) detergents on the market.
Don't try opening the door once the filling begins. The water will spill out on your floor. Believe me.
Purchase the extended service policy if you are worried about a breakdown. We bought a five year policy at Circuit City for a low price. Of course ours will never breakdown now that we have the service policy.
Between loads, leave the door slightly open so the insides can dry out. I also wipe the inside door glass dry with a washcloth between loads.
To speed up your laundry, buy only one, different type of underwear and one type of socks for each member of the family so your kids can sort it.
Only place this washer on a solid, strong floor. It is very heavy and will vibrate the floor and walls if the base is not stable. We have half inch quarry tile on top of half inch cement board on top of 3/4 inch plywood subflooring laid on quiet floor joists. A cement floor would do the job as well.
Sit back with a cool drink and relax while it gently cleans your laundry. Invite the neighbors to watch your laundry go round and round through the window in the door. Mention how the laundry changes directions every minute or so and how entertaining this can be. They'll really be impressed and/or know that you have lost all of your marbles.
