Pros: lightweight, has a canopy, good support in seat and backrest, easy to maneuver
Cons: no basket, lever to collapse stroller hard to use if you are wearing bulky shoes
The Bottom Line: For the price, this stroller is a great buy. The seat has great support and the canopy is a feature not found on many umbrella strollers.
murphydog77's Full Review: Kolcraft Reclining Umbrella Stroller
Our first stroller was part of a travel system and it was huge and hard to maneuver in stores, doctors' offices, etc. I'd finally had it when my son was 5 months old and I couldn't wait to put the big stroller in the closet to collect dust.
I began my search for a lightweight stroller online. At the time, I had no clue an umbrella stroller that reclined even existed. When I saw it at an online store, I was intrigued, especially with how sturdy the seat looked. All the umbrella strollers I saw in brick and mortar stores were very flimsy and cheap looking. I was afraid to put my son in a standard umbrella stroller because of that lack of support.
Since I couldn't find a Kolcraft Reclining Umbrella Stroller locally, I bought it online. I was so excited when the UPS man delivered my new stroller! I quickly put it together (it took about 5 minutes from box to putting my son in it) and test drove it around the house. We both loved it! It maneuvered easily and my son loved to sleep in the reclined position. The seat is very sturdy and I'd feel very comfortable having a small baby (2-3+ months) in the reclined position.
The test came when we went to the store that evening. It performed wonderfully! It was very easy to push and steer and its turning circle is very small. Later when we went to a doctor's office, it strolled right between people's feet without rolling over any toes (I lost track of how many people I rolled over with the big stroller).
The canopy to block the sun from my son's head is nice and can easily be folded back and out of the way.
The handles also appear to be slightly longer than standard umbrella stroller handles. With longer handles, you don't kick the stroller wheels as often as you would with shorter handles.
I really like the color combination. My stroller is a pleasing green and navy plaid. I've never had to wash anything off the seat and other than looking a tad faded from use, it's holding up quite well.
My 19 month old son is very large for his age and still has plenty of growth room in this stroller.
One drawback I've seen with it since I got it over a year ago is that it lacks a basket. I remedied that by buying an add-on mesh pouch made by a different company. We went Christmas shopping with this stroller and had no problem with carrying purchased items.
The other drawback is that it's difficult to collapse if you are wearing bulky shoes. The folding lever is designed to be pushed to the left and up with your foot. If you're wearing bulky shoes, your foot will get caught up in the mechanism.
Overall, I'd say this stroller is a definite "keeper"!
