| LauraRN's Full Review: Grand Lido Negril Resort & Spa, by SuperClubs |
The Grand Lido Negril spa is like the cherry on top of the best ice cream sundae you've ever eaten. Having never been to a spa before, I wasn't sure what to expect. But this place was fabulous.
I already wrote a separate review of the resort (http://laurarn.epinions.com/content_26051579524/tk_~CB008.1.1) which will tell you more information about the resort itself. The spa is on the property and most services cost extra. Manicures and pedicures are included for all guests, which was a nice surprise because the book said they were extra for guests who had gotten the super surprise package. (See my other review for more details.)
Services provided
The spa provides a large amount of services with a wide range of prices. All prices are in US dollars.
Massages: $30-70 (other people we met told us these were wonderful!)
Reflexology: $35-50
Facials: $40-80
Body Wraps: $70-80
Body Scrubs: $15-45
Waxing: $8-50
Deluxe Manicures and Pedicures (basic one is free): $35
All services have a 15% tax and everything is charged to your room.
You need an appointment for your services and must cancel no later than two hours before or else you will be charged half the cost of the service. Keeping an appointment is not as easy as it sounds in a place with such a laid back atmosphere where there are few clocks, but I managed. They try to run pretty much on time.
The whole spa area is surrounded with lush plants and soft music. There is a sauna and plunge pool that is open 24 hours a day. I had a basic facial and my husband and I both had manicures and pedicures.
There are treatment rooms arranged in all around the pool. Massages are done in gazebos overlooking the ocean. When I arrived for my facial, I waited for a few minutes by the pool and a lady escorted me to a treatment room. The lady had me lay on a table and wrapped a towel over my head and shoulders. She then put stuff on my face, took stuff off, and put more stuff on my face. I am the type who likes to know what people are doing, but this woman wasn’t too friendly and I didn’t think she would explain. It was very relaxing, there was soft music playing in the background and she massaged my face and neck. She did tell me when something she put on my face made me turn bright red and seemed kind of worried. When I told her it wasn’t bothering me, she relaxed and they was a little more talkative. Overall, I liked the experience. My skin felt very clean and it was very relaxing.
The manicures and pedicures are done in a special room where they can do three people at a time. My husband and I and another lady were all done at the same time. The ladies were busy talking to each other and didn’t talk to us too much. It wasn’t that they were rude; I would just describe them as unfriendly. We found out later that the resort discourages staff from getting too friendly with the guests. The manicures and pedicures were wonderful, however. Our hands and feet were very smooth, our nails looked great and they massaged us to our elbows and knees.
The Grand Lido is a great place to relax and enjoy yourself. It would be nice if more spa services were included, I probably would have tried more services. I would highly recommend splurging on at least one service. You won’t regret it.
