While visiting my parents over a weekend recently, we decided to go to lunch at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, near San Diego.
My Mom had been to a luncheon with a women's group she belongs to and she told us that the place was simply beautiful and we had to see it.
So we went on a Sunday morning, leaving about 10:30 am and driving south on the 5 freeway to Carlsbad, CA. We arrived in less than an hour. We took some time to snap a couple of photos at the property's entrance near a large water fountain featuring flamingo statues as we waited for our car to be valet parked. (Our restaurant ticket was validated later for parking purposes.)
At the hotel, there are 329 guest rooms, including 44 suites, each one featuring a balcony or a terrace. The rooms all come with flat screen TV, DVD player and Wi-Fi too.
This area is very popular for outdoor activities, including a manicured golf course, numerous tennis courts, two pools and a jacuzzi.
We walked down the beautiful wide hallway, complete with expensive looking boutiques, to check out the brunch buffet. It looked like it included everything but the kitchen sink, with tons of delectable choices. I asked the hostess how much the buffet was. She told me it was $58 per person. :(
So...we opted for a much more affordable lunch at the Argyle Restaurant, located on another part of the huge Four Seasons Aviara property.
To get to the Argyle Restaurant, we went back out to the main entrance. A shuttle was waiting, which is very handy and comes and goes every 5 minutes to take you to various parts of the property. We boarded for the short ride to the Argyle Restaurant. We passed the golf course area, which is an Arnold Palmer signature course. Taking the shuttle helps you appreciate and see more of what the Four Seasons Aviara has to offer. This is an enormous property with 220 acres in total.
I chose eggs florentine, once of my favorite dishes, which is eggs and spinach with a delicious sauce, and my Dad had Crab Benedict which also is served with a creamy Hollandaise sauce. My mom had another egg dish and all of us were quite delighted with our ample early lunch.
The lobby is quite breathtaking, with large windows overlooking manicured gardens, wooden benches, a large fountain, shrubs, small trees and eventually, a valley. The elegant furnishings are impeccable. I took a photo of my Mom next to a gorgeous orchid, atop a table in another living room setting. We decided to sit and talk for awhile too in another of the tranquil living room areas near the lobby. I think I counted three or four of these kinds of relaxing rooms. There was a fireplace with large mirror above it, a built-in bookshelf with pretty vases and some books and large potted plants throughout. Chair groupings and floor lamps complete the look which invites the visitor to relax and enjoy. There are two kinds of tea available for the taking with fresh lemon and lime slices. We sat down to take it all in, enjoying the ambiance.
The two swimming pools that we saw later looked really inviting. One was a huge regular pool and one was a pool for adults called the tranquility pool, which overlooks the ocean. Everything here was quiet, tidy and in its place. Bright yellow umbrellas and clean white chaise lounge chairs completed the look. The other pool was more for families and children, but was equally inviting, especially since the day was getting warm. This one featured changing tents and protection from the hot sun. There also was a whirlpool jacuzzi. A small outdoor cafe featuring straw umbrellas was adjacent to the pools. There are statues throughout this area as well. One is of a sleeping 'man' on a chair, so we joked around and took a picture of one of us sleeping next to him. :)
Of course, this Four Seasons Aviara has everything for the traveler, including meeting rooms and wedding facilities.
If you get a chance to visit here, by all means, stop in and treat yourself.
