| Guru's Full Review: Boston Harbor Hotel |
I grew up in Boston and rarely had the opportunity to stay at a hotel until I moved to Seattle for five years. Whenever I traveled to Boston for business, I would stay at the relatively new (ten years old) Boston Harbor Hotel. I chose the BHH because of its location, style, service and amenities.
Location
The Boston Harbor Hotel is well located if you are attending an event at the Boston's World Trade Center. It's a short walk to the Trade Center and still leaves you near downtown. If you opt to stay near the convention center, you will be far from walking to many interesting restaurants. Additionally, BHH is located on the city landing spot for the airport water shuttle. There is not better way to approach Boston on a perfect summer day than cruising in on a boat and landing at your hotel.
The Hotel is located off of I-93 which makes it easy to get around. You will have to deal with the "Big Dig" project and constantly changing paths around the hotel. More importantly, you can easily walk to the North End, Haymarket and Fanuiel Hall. Getting to Newbury Street is not easy, but who cares!
Style
The Boston Harbor Hotel has a classic New England style coupled with modern amenities. Unlike many Boston hotels, this hotel was built in the last 15 years and not in 1500. Everything is plush and comfy. I found the junior suites to be large, comfortable and accommodating for work or relaxation. The bathrooms are larger and very well lit.
Service
I have been pleased with the service at BHH. They are friendly and even remember your name after a day or two. Their room service has been prompt and the concierge is always willing to help.
Amenities
The dining services are excellent. They also do a great job in catering events. If you get a chance to enjoy dinner or drinks in the Rotunda Room, don't hesitate. The view over the harbor is magnificent. The hotel could stand to update its gym facilities. Those are lacking. But, overall the basics are all there.
The biggest problem with the Boston Harbor Hotel is that a night's stay is expensive and several night's stay is really expensive. It's great for a special weekend or when someone else is paying. Otherwise, you can get more for money some place else.
