| tat8er's Full Review: Omni Hotel at Independence Park |
I lucked into a promotional rate on a room here that was comparable to two star hotels in the area. It was July 1 - 3, 2004 and the area was geared up for the Independence Day celebrations and buzzing with tourists. Until I saw the room, I was certain I must have gotten a 'deal' for an unrenovated less-than-standard room. But, NO -- I not only had a new room but when I opened the curtains I had a view of Independence Hall!
The other reviewer who notes the underwhelming AC is correct. I found the same problem, and I was there in July in the heat of summer. I could not get the room below 75. I made do by reminding myself what a deal I had, thought of the patriots who had no AC and survived, and went for swims in the small, dark, but adequate swimming pool in the basement.
The location here is amazing and if I can get promotional rates I will return to this hotel any time I can. I have stayed in Philadelphia many times but this location is prime. Its a pedestrian's dream location. Public transportation is a snap, too.
If you can't find a place to eat you didn't try. Next door, during working hours, is the Bourse with its amazing food court. One of the cafes has an outstanding hot/cold buffet for take out or eat in. Within the blocks surrounding the hotel are everything from fast food outlets to gourmet ethnic places. I ordered a refrigerator for the room, an extra $10, but it was well worth it. There are grocery stores in the neighborhood where you can stock up on drinks and snack foods.
This hotel deserves its 4 star rating. The staff was helpful, courteous and went out of their way to be friendly -- even though they knew I was one of the bargain basement customers.
