| tchoate's Full Review: The Mirage Hotel And Casino |
I have been lucky enough to travel to Las Vegas many times. My husband worked for a company that had a lot of business meetings in Las Vegas. We were lucky enough to stay at some of the nicest hotels on the Las Vegas Strip. The Mirage was a first rate experience from the time I walked in the front door.
The Exterior
The experience of this hotel begins before you ever walk into the lobby. You are greeted by a large volcano, that every hour on the hour spews fire and lava. It is an outstanding site as you drive up to this beautiful hotel. The hotel itself looks like it is made of pure gold. The landscaping you will notice right off is beautifully done and kept extremely manicured and very clean.
The Hotel
Upon entering the front door of The Mirage you are immediately greeted by a luscious tropical rain forest. The palm trees are there and you are instantly put into a tropical mood. The lobby is very large and beautifully decorated. This of course is not the most important aspect of this hotel. Upon stepping up to register you are greeted by a friendly smile and a warm hello, welcome to The Mirage by a front desk clerk. We didn't even have to stand in line to check in, even though our group was fairly large they had enough staff on hand so that we were immediately waited on. We were told our room was ready and given directions as to how to get there. The clerk explained to us which elevator to take and took the time to give us a quick overview of the hotel.
Our Room
Since we had visited Las Vegas previously, I had something to compare our room to. Let me say this, The Mirage room was extremely large even with the two beds and chair that were in our room. The room was clean and well decorated. There were plenty of towels in the bathroom and the a/c was on with the room at a nice temperature. The view from our room was spectacular at night. Since we really didn't come to Las Vegas for the room we quickly headed down to the Casino. But believe me when I tell you, you will really enjoy your room as they are wonderful.
The Casino
The casino itself is very large. There is everything from Keno(my favorite game), Craps, Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker to thousands of slot machines, poker machines and keno machines. The dealers at all of the tables my husband played at were just as friendly as the front desk clerk had been. The casino was extremely busy but as large and open as it is you never really felt crowded. You never had to worry about needing a drink as the wait staff was always coming by and service was great. The tables do have a rather high buy in, with $5.00 being the absolute smallest we found. We also noticed that the buy in price goes up at night. I mostly stuck with playing Keno and the slot machines and left the table games to my husband. The Keno Bar was great, once again with friendly staff who would carry on conversations with us as we waited in between games. All in all the casino was very nice and once again was a tropical paradise.
The Restaurants
We really only ate in the cafe that was right off of the Casino, mostly at breakfast time. The food was good, always served hot and we never waited very long to be seated. Once again we found a friendly wait staff, that kept our glasses full and made sure we had everything we needed. The Keno Runners came by frequently and were also extremely friendly.
We didn't eat in any of the other restaurants, but we did have a large dinner one night in one of their banquet rooms. Usually I am not very pleased with a large banquet type meal, but this one was a surprise. The food was hot when it was served, we were seated quickly and each course was served in a timely manner. The staff that worked this banquet were very efficient and friendly as well. We were served chicken, potatoes, green beans, salad, bread and a drink. I didn't hear one complaint about the meal or the service received by anyone with our large group.
Overall
The Mirage hotel and casino were first rate from the time we pulled into the driveway right up until the time we left. We found nothing but friendly, helpful staff members. We always felt safe as we constantly saw security guards, even at the elevators you had to show your key to be able to enter. The swimming pool was a paradise all by itself. The pool area had a bar, kiddie area and a large pool with lots of poolside loungers for you to relax. Since this was a business trip my husband made the comment that their meeting rooms were extremely clean each day and well stocked with snacks and drinks for them during the day.
Don't Miss This
While at The Mirage be sure you go outside at night and see the beautiful volcano at its best. The show takes place every hour on the hour and is definitely a must see. Also be sure and see the beautiful White Tigers and the wonderful fish aquarium in the lobby entrance of the hotel. There is so much to see and do at The MirageHotel and Casino that you would never have to leave there if you didn't want to.
I promise you will find this experience First Rate and will be sorry when it is time to go home. If you are planning a trip to Las Vegas, check out this beautiful spot of paradise in the desert!
