sweetcece's Full Review: Organic Gardening Magazine
Being stuck in the house on a cold, wet winter day isn't my idea of a fun time, but that is what happened this weekend as I was attending my son recovering from wisdom tooth surgery. During this time I was able to catch up with a great amount of reading including one of my passions -- gardening. By some great blessing I was able to receive about 5 years of Organic Gardening magazine for nothing and dreamed about the warmth of summer days, and the great harvests to come.
Organic Gardening
Before I received these magazines as a gift, I had not heard of Organic Gardening magazine. I was interested in organic gardening because I desire to purchase this type of product in the store for my family, but I had not taken the time or effort to search for a magazine specifically designed for this type of gardening. I didn't like to use chemicals in my very small garden, but then again, I had bad success in some aspects of it as well. I needed help, and this magazine was tremendous help indeed.
What Did I Learn?
I learned many things from Organic Gardening magazine. Here's a synopsis of the things that I learned:
* Small organic gardening information - I have a very small garden in my back yard, and it was hard to find effective information on how to get the maximum production from a small plot without going into great technical detail. The experiences of gardeners and information were very helpful.
* Heirloom seed information - Since our produce seems to be inundated with hybrid varieties, I had determined I wanted to get more back to the basics here with true seed. I was able to find great resource information about heirloom seeds and how they can be used.
* Container gardening - Since I have a small plot of garden actually in the yard, I use containers to compensate for this. Organic Gardening has lots of effective ways to use this type of garden, and suggestions for type of plants to use for these containers.
* Health Information - One thing I was surprised about with Organic Gardening is that it addresses some things that are not specifically gardening in specific, but overall information that could be helpful with one's health. Learning about indoor air pollution, fake foods, and other general subjects gave you an eye opening experience about how not only pesticides can affect our health but various other things.
* Recipes - Incredible recipes are also found within this magazine. Usually they are contained after a discussion of a particular fruit or vegetable, but regardless, the recipes are created with whole grains, honey and other natural sweetners, and because of this, they are adaptable for a great many diets including the Maker's Diet, Eat Drink and be Healthy and others. This also helped me in finding recipes for the Daniel Fast that I begin tomorrow.
Drawbacks
The main drawback that I found from reading Organic Gardening is several of the topics repeat over the years. I suspect that is because the topic is important and many new readers want to read about it, but this can make reading successions of years of magazines rather boring.
In addition, there are sometimes when I could not find anything interesting to read in one of the magazines at all -- except for the reader input sections. This occurred perhaps about 5 percent of the time, but to me that is significant.
Recommendation
Overall, I am really impressed with Organic Gardening magazine with is content and wealth of information. It made my time at home very pleasant, and because I do find each magazine filled with even more information that helps me every month in most instances, I give this magazine a thumbs up recommendation.
