As this is my 400th review on Epinions, I looked back over some of my earliest reviews. Man, were they bad! As much as Ive improved in writing over the years, Ive improved almost as much in my running due to Runners World Magazine.
Runners World Magazine is the premier magazine for runners of all shapes, sizes, and skill levels. I have been a subscriber for the past couple of years and cant wait each month when I get my new magazine.
The thing I like best about Runners World Magazine is that it has shown to be beneficial to all levels of runners. You can learn something from it whether you are a beginner just trying to finish running a couple of miles without walking or working towards your personal best in your 100th marathon. No matter your level, there are articles that can benefit you.
The types of articles in Runners World Magazine run the gamut. Here is a list of types of articles I have found beneficial in just the couple of years Ive been reading.
Training plans for different levels I love the various training plans written about in Runners World Magazine. Whether you are training for your first 5K or your 50th marathon, there is an article in the magazine about training for it. Their training plans have helped me increase my speed and, therefore my personal best times, in races that I run each year.
Nutrition information The articles on nutrition have helped me greatly. They always give good information about the proper nutrition you need in order to help your running. This isnt based around nutrition to lose weight or build muscle. Its based around the nutrition you need for the various muscle groups utilized while running.
Rehab tips While I havent had any running related injuries, Runners World Magazine has articles in each magazine dealing with different types of injuries. They often tell the best way to avoid injuries, but the most advantageous articles are how to get back to 100% after suffering an injury.
Exotic destinations that are great for running Im the type of person who loves to watch the National Geographic Channel and other channels dealing with the landscape of America. Runners World Magazine has had many articles over the past couple of years that show exotic places around the country to run. These really catch my attention. Anyone who likes to travel and run will enjoy these articles whether or not you actually get to visit the location.
The types of shoes that are best I have seen numerous articles over the past couple of years on different types of running shoes in Runners World Magazine. It doesnt appear that the magazine is funded by any single company as they give each brand of running shoe its fair share of page space. They give detailed information about each type of shoe and who its best suited for. I actually changed shoes based on an article in the magazine and have loved the shoes I changed to.
Weight loss/maintain tips For the average person, like me, who always would like to lose a few additional pounds, the articles on weight loss are always a plus. Runners World Magazine does a very good job highlighting ways to cut calories without cutting into your energy level. They have articles with lists of foods that are helpful in losing weight while increasing your stamina, endurance, and speed.
Common running injuries Similar to the rehab tips above, these articles deal with very common running injuries. The articles give ways to avoid them and, when you have them, they help you with the best way to get back out on the road again.
Scientific articles about running My favorite article (probably because it justifies how slow I run) was written by a doctor that ran frequently with a former world-class distance runner. The distance runner had a knee injury and surgery that put him out of running for around 6 months. The doctor called him the day he was cleared to run again and they went out for a run. The runner who hadnt strapped his running shoes on in 6 months went out at a 6 minute/mile pace. The doctor didnt understand how he was able to do this when he hadnt run at all in 6 months. This sparked the doctors interest so he began to research runners. What he found out was that running was 85% genetic. While everyone can improve on their times somewhat, if you dont have the right genes, you will never be able to be a world-class runner.
As you can see, Runners World Magazine has many different types of articles that are all, in one way or another, related to running. Whether you are an avid runner or just a beginner, I can guarantee there is an article that will help you in each issue of Runners World Magazine. I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to be healthier and in better shape. My wife even reads it on occasion and she hasnt run in many years because of a high school knee injury.
