I think Brian Eno has been always overrated.Running single notes forever has no apeal to me.But somehow his formula works;for some bizzare reason he finds huge audience.Besides I cannot stand his tendecies towards country music/apollo 13/.

The Broken Leg Effect (Reply to this comment)
by croyd
I've read somewhere that a muffled/broken speaker gave a then bed-ridden Eno the basis for his exploration in ambience. Essentially, Eno wanted to create music that didn't have to be listened to actively.
It turns out that when you don't constantly demand the ears attention an entirely different "listening" experience takes shape. Sorry if I'm getting too astro-physical here.
Solid opinion, appealing descriptions. Fans of this style of abstraction should check out "Pole," a one-man army of minimalism.
