Pros: Nilsson at her best, Corelli mainly persuasive, young Renata Scotto showing promise; good buy
Cons: Orchestra could be better; sound is better on others

Nicely done! You know, I have always preferred Varnay over Nilsson on the dramatic term, but there really is no better Turandot than La Nilsson. Her Turandot melts so spectacularly in the end after such icy beginning it's a wonder to hear.

Did you hear how Nilsson told Varnay to come chat with her before she went on stage as Turandot in Vienna? Varnay couldn't believe Nilsson would want to chat before singing that role, then the theater manager comes in to check on the diva before the curtain went up and couldn't get over seeing 2 Brunnhildes in the same dressing room in his theater!

Great review!

Excellent review! And your a propos of nothing was a great story... who knew there was a Mike Tyson story in opera legend?

The comments all around (music, history, performances) are incisive and balanced; I like your style.
