Mr_D's Full Review: Evil Empire [PA] by Rage Against the Machine
Rage Against the Machine's long awaited followed up album was finally released in 1996, after almost 5 years in the works. Titled Evil Empire, the album is all about De La Rocha's anti-capitalist views. Unfortunately, since their original success and touring, Rage didn't actually get a chance to play much together, so as a band, they really didn't grow from their first release.
But held together by Tom Morello's tight playing, Evil Empire gives out the same no frills pounding rock that fans had come to expect. You'll get that same heavy rapcore rock and roll they had seemed to master on their first release, and you'll get De La Rocha's anti-everything lyrics.
This album also carries two popular radio songs today in "Bulls on Parade" and "Down Rodeo" which certainly are two of the better songs on the release, but often overlooked is the intro track "People of the Sun", "Revolver" and "Year of Tha Boomerang".
While the other tracks just are a little more standard Rage (let's be honest, they haven't really changed their sound since they started) the highlight tracks do make the album worth having to listen to. While not quite as good as their debut release, Evil Empire still stands on it's own, and is a decent additon to any Rage fan or rapcore fan's collection.
