Mr_D's Full Review: Chef Aid: The South Park Album [PA] by Original So...
I can't believe this album was released in 1998, it doesn't seem like that long ago. Anyway, South Park fans should be aware that not only are there an edited and a dirty version of this album, but there are also 2 different collectible covers, for the big time South Park fan.
What you have here is a compilation based around the TV Cartoon show South Park, and specifically an episode called "Chef Aid". The musicians who appear in the episode have their songs recorded on this soundtrack, as well as different songs by Chef (Isaac Hayes) and the rest of the south park crew.
There are 21 tracks, and they mix rock, rap, techo, and metal all into different packages, and sometimes at the same time. Ozzy Osbourne works with ODB and DMX, System of a Down works with Puff Daddy and L'il Kim, for example.
You'll also get south park related songs by Elton John, Primus, Master P, and Perry Farrel, as well as non-South park songs from Rancid, Joe Strummer, Devo and Ween.
And of course, you'll get Eric Cartman singing Styx's "Come Sail Away".
For the non-South Park fan, I'd basically rate this an album a 3, and probably tell you not to get it.
But for those imbued with a good sense of humor, and LIKE South Park, than this album is a necessity to any collection. It's funny, and some of the songs are really good. Plus, the Primus song on Kevin answers so many questions. :>
The better songs include Chef doing "Salty Chocolate Balls", Ozzy/DMX/ODB/Crystal Method/Fuzzbubble on "Nowhere to Run", Elton John's "Wake Up Wendy" and "Mephisto and Kevin" by Primus. Also, extremely funny is the whole dialogue leading up to the song "Horny" by Mousse-T.
But in general it's good for a chuckle most of the time, and South Park fans should appreciate it.
