Speeeedy_J's Full Review: Voice of an Angel by Charlotte Church
I bought this album for myself after hearing a preview of what she sounded like on TV a while back. An understatement would be that I was hypnotized with the vibrant power and feeling her voice related to me-- I was simply astonished and intrigued, wanting to hear more!
The first time I'd heard about Charlotte on a TV show about her fame in her homeland and how she was spreading worldwide in popularity. It's not all about popularity, it's about real talent-- Charlotte has an abundance of talent and is still growing! Therefore she deserves all the fame she can get, not just because of her age related to talent. People who degrade her talent because of her age are being immature!
This album focuses on many favorite traditional songs such as:
1. Pie Jesu
2. Panis Angelicus
6. Ave Maria
9. Danny Boy
13. Amazing Grace
The versions of these songs I hear everywhere do not stand up to Charlotte's versions of them. For instance, when she sings Pie Jesu or Danny Boy, it is as if she is the creator of the songs because she sings them with such masterful grace and spirit.
Other more unique songs are included, like:
8. I Vow to Thee, My Country
11. Suo-Gan
12. A Lullaby
14-16. Three Welsh Bird Songs
17. When at Night I Go To Sleep
In which a couple of the songs are sang in Latin and/or Welsh.
"Voice of an Angel" is more of a mellow, relaxing cd. You can listen to it while reading, writing, working, resting, or going to bed. If you are struggling to stay awake for some reason, change cd's! I suggest listening to her other album rightfully titled "Charlotte Church", it is uplifting and energetic.
This is definitely one album you MUST have if you are a true fan of Soprano! You'll appreciate the beautiful artistry her voice proclaims in every song.
