gunshy's Full Review: Piece and Love by Meg Lee Chin
My brother recently introduced me to the weird world of Meg Lee Chin, and her album "Piece and Love", a unique cross-breed of Techno, Electronica, and Rap. Meg Lee Chin, though Asian, has a wonderful English accent, which is apparent in the first words she speaks "It was a really boring night in Maaahnchisstah". There's something about that accent that I love, but what is even more lovable, is Meg's enthusiasm, which comes through in each track.
The first time I heard "Piece and Love" I was skeptical. Meg takes some bold steps in an already unique genre. But somehow she makes it work. Often times I couldn't help but find myself smiling at her singing: She's like a little kid; too happy and enthustiastic to care if she sounds different or silly. It's refreshing to hear something like this CD.
Whether or not it would be right for you, I don't know. I have some weird tastes in music, but if you like "Portishead", I think you would like this one as well. If you've never heard of "Portishead", I'd check them out first; they're kind of similar, only a little more normal. However, if you too, like different music that's easy to dance to, even if it is a little off the beaten path (okay, a LOT of the beaten path) go out and get this CD, because chances are you wont find a friend to borrow it from.
Definitely one of a kind, but strangely addicting.
