Even though I am an Elvis fan..... (Reply to this comment)

I love most of these. I used to dance to Danny and the Juniors, "At the hop". What a great song.
Thanks for doing the review.

Re: Nice Review (Reply to this comment)

Yup. Thought I kinda said that, but it's okay. Elvis was just the point at which it all broke through. The included songs Rocket 88 & Crazy Man, Crazy were recorded and hits well before Presley hit it big. And, for that matter, nobody knew quite how to categorize him (country? rock? pop? r&b?) I didnt' speak to him as much as I probably should because he's not included.
Anyway, thanks for the comment. I enjoyed writing the review.

Nice Review (Reply to this comment)

And a nice collection of songs. As someone who followed the evolution of R&B into R&R I probably would have substituted for a few songs like Venus etc. but overall not bad,
I would like to point out that R&R was well on it's way before the emergence of Elvis and didn't need any help. In fact our wonderboy Pat Boone did more(as much as I hate to admit it) to promote R&R than Elvis did. Elvis's first and arguably his best hit was Heartbreak Hotel a blusey number (R&B maybe) not R&R, followed by the the Folksy rock song Don't be Cruel.

Wonderful review (Reply to this comment)

Boy, did this bring back old memories. Although my folks were so much into jazz that I rarely knew what Rock and Roll was, I later learned to love many of these songs. One person who is left off the collection (besides Elvis) is Louis Jordan. While he walked the music tightrope between jazz, "race music" and R & B, much of his work sounds like R & R to me. Nevertheless, this is another of your great reviews. Thanks for the memories.
