Hey D,

Hope you're doin' alright. Yeah, Jay Dee was great, but the good die young, right? And he sure did leave us one helluva body of work to keep us going, didn't he? Anyhow, thanks for stopping by!

peace & love,
Eric

Brent,

I'm wondering what the future does hold for you, since you quit in December.

Well, as for this site, I dunno, maybe I'll write again. In life...thinkin' about going for a job in Florida; they need teachers and don't have winters. We'll see.

peace & love,

Hi Kyle,

I have a question, how long did he work with the Soulquarians before becoming a soloist?

That's an interesting question, but it's not like he started working with one crew, switched, went solo, in any sort of order. He was just part of several collectives, one of which was The Souliquarians, when he decided to form that moniker with ?uestlove, etc. Even as he got with them, he still repped The Ummah, and while his first solo album, I believe, came out before The Souliquarians got together, he just had so many projects he was working on, it all sort of blended together.

Maybe I'll try the new Madlib.

I'm wondering what that Beat Konducta (sic?) stuff is all about, but yeah, should be interesting...with Madlib it always is.

And thanks for telling me about Drew's write-up. Had no idea.

peace & love,
Eric

Shilms!

i actually thought it was weird to not have you on the site to review it, given it's just the sort of thing i could see you championing

Well, that's pretty cool. Yeah, I really can't ever get enough of the Jay Dee/Madlib/Stones Throw stuff, and this might be the best release to come out of that camp. And hey, Pop Matters got it right, too!

in any case, it's good to see you back, and that the quality of your writing has not fallen off in the least

Thanks and thanks! I'm not sure what else to say, but...

Thanks!

peace & love,
Eric

Hola Yak!

This just a one-time thing?

I dunno. The past has shown I can't ever say one way or the other.

My scrotum fears you.

Hey man, very nice to see you drop a review on this album - a good tribute.

Only time I heard Dilla's work was with Common, on "Be" and "LWFC", and he's talented. But I second Headcase's comment, I won't fake expertise on him thanks to his death - however, I have a question, how long did he work with the Soulquarians before becoming a soloist?

Anyway, instrumental albums are very different than those with words - but ya did this great man. Maybe I'll try the new Madlib.

Btw, Drew wrote-up somethin' for your mix you sent him - if you get a chance to see it. Hope everything's goin well with you,

Peace

...when this came out, i actually thought it was weird to not have you on the site to review it, given it's just the sort of thing i could see you championing...and here you are, and i'm not let down in the least by the review that you've shown us.

dilla's donuts were worth one-offing a site you'd previously written off, i think, and if you decide to just come back and grace us with your presence when you're truly inspired, well, y'know, that works. in any case, it's good to see you back, and that the quality of your writing has not fallen off in the least.

cheers,

All I can say is this review was simply outstanding. You covered every aspect of this record perfectly. Even if it's only a one time thing, its great to see another review from you.

I'm not gonna sit here and act like I followed J Dilla's entire career just because he died. But I will say he was definitely a talented producer and he will be missed.

Once again, this was an excellent review.

Peace
