Re: As far as original group names... (Reply to this comment)

Hey David,
Well, been remodeling a house, top to bottom, since mid-January, so I've been pretty tied up with that. I'm about to post some reviews in the next couple of days, if not sooner (had several things in draft, but I've been slow to finish them).
Thanks for the comments, amigo.
I loved Sullivan, so I loved your thoughts on Sullivan introductions!

As far as original group names... (Reply to this comment)
by davidp24
...how about Ed Sullivan introducing: "And now ladies and gentlemen, here's a really big group that lives up to its name, here's "Lacking Talent." Let's really hear it for them.
Or, Ed saying, "Here's a group that came in all the way from France, let's really hear it for "Oui Suc."
Actually, Ed had it good introducing the Beatles and Rolling Stones, truly great names and groups.
By the way, Don, where have you been recently? I see you are almost at 300 reviews but stopped writing them for awhile. Hope to see some new ones from you soon.

Hey Paul,
As that German soldier on TV's "Laugh-In" used to say:
"Ver-r-r-r-y interesting..."
Glad you're keeping that sense of humor, my friend.
Don ;-)

I just had a thought for a couple of names for any 'fantasy' rock groups from the 60s or 70s that never came to pass.
How about:
The Dim Bulbs
or
The Blunt Nails?
You know, sometimes I get so out there that I even crack myself up.......(:-)
or is that I've already 'cracked up'?

That's probably the ones I remember. I only remember them from Shindig, however. Have you looked at my profile page?
Cheers!

AJ,
You might be thinking of an earlier, American group called Davie Allan and The Arrows who had some cool American instrumental hits like "Apache '65" (kind of a galloping guitar-sound). They were a different group, but I had that group's album (also called "Apache '65" and all instrumental) and I used to love it as a kid in the '60s.
This Arrows (the subject of this review) is pure '70s, though, and I love their sound. It's a shame they only had hits in England.

They used to play pretty regularly on a show called Shindig that was on in the mid-60s. I doubt if these are the same guys, however--but who knows!?!
Rock On!

I didn't know. No wonder the song sounded so great when it was first released (yes, I remember when it happened) so I'm up there so to speak.
Great reviews as usual.

Unbelievable review... (Reply to this comment)
by davidp24
Who knew that Joan Jett's "I Love Rock 'N Roll" monster hit was actually a remake of the Arrows song. I certainly didn't know this.
I learn so much reading your music reviews. The Don Kirschner's Rock Concerts are very dim memories to me now. I used to watch them all but I don't remember all the acts now. I don't remember the Arrows, but they sound like their music is really good.
Don, I feel that your music reviews set the standard for the way the best ones are written. They are always very informative and interesting, not an easy accomplishment. I always enjoy reading them.
Happy New Year!!
David

Will,
You are one new member who has inspired me with your creativity as a writer and with your sense of humor. You've given me new hope for Epinions' future via your writing, and also with your generous friendship, and may you have great success on the site.
And thanks for those nice comments, too, amigo.

Casey,
I'll try to deliver that gift shortly.
Thanks for those lovely comments, too.
If ever I learned from anyone on this site about how to write a music review, it was from you, and I would offer up all of your reviews as the quality standard to be studied by Epinions members.
Whenever I lose faith in the community, I take note of and am thankful for the long-time friendship of a handful of folks I cherish on Epinions. You and Howard_Creech are always at the top of that list of people whose friendship keeps me writing here.

Another Oldie But Goodie (Reply to this comment)

Gosh, Don. Mickey Most. I haven't thought about him since Donovan's days of Mellow Yellow and Sunshine Superman!
BTW, I love to read the bits of history that put these older groups into the proper perspective/or framework, if you will. And by using various headers, (I tend to use "A Bit Of Band History"), people can readily speed on to the meat of the review and skip the appetizers and veggies if they've a mind to.
Me? I always like to learn something new. Now, as my Christmas present from you, I'd like either an updated photo here or hey, just send one to my email addy. Heck, I did it before I 'shocked' people at a Meet n' Greet last year but everyone said "you look just like your Eps' photo".
Go figure but please have a Merry Merry and a Happy Happy!
;-) Casey

I too am impressed w/your style. Some people can't tolerate the facts that set the mood of the time, which explains so many other factors. It is far from extraneous data. Please note my golf ball, and golf club reviews. I believe history adds a lot of perspective. Then again, some people don't share the same passion that we do for the products we review.

I can remember that TV series in the 1970's lol
I don't think I was too much of a fan; they just came out after the peak of bubblegum and so weren't very cool as I remember.
Great to hear how the band fared after they split up - good detailed write up as always Don.
