kiarrith's Full Review: The Corporate World by Gail Ann Dorsey
Here is a classic example of an awesomely talented artist's debut album, ignored by the masses.
Gail is not a big name to the average person, but mention her to some top musician and they know exactly who you mean. She is extremely talented; her vocals are out of this world--awesomely versatile and very original sound. She plays a mean guitar and bass guitar, and also plays keyboards, drums, and the clarinet--to give you an idea of her widespread talent.
In 1989 she debuted with this album, which contains not only very intelligent and original love songs (as opposed to most pop drivvel) but also many critiques of modern society.
The sound is truly excellent; I got this record because I really enjoyed Gail's work with David Bowie and am so glad I did! I got it at a bargain on Ebay [there is often one to be found there, at quite reasonable prices--check it out!] and wow was I ever impressed when I reall sat and listened to it! I am not sure what I expected from a debut album from 1989, but it certainly wasn't anything this great! She also has a 1992 release: Rude Blue. and if you ever see a real chance to buying Rude Blue [I canNOT find it anywhere], PLEASE drop me a line at kiarrith@davidbowie.com even if its only a CDR copy, I really want this CD!
If you ever have a chance to get yer paws on this CD, do so posthaste--it will be worth it, I promise.
