Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space has all the makings of a great horror comedy - outrageous makeup, insane torture treatments, hideous acting, and dim witted townspeople. Of course we can't forget clowns. Clowns have been used in horror films before but never like this. The Chiodo Brothers got nothin' on Stephen King's IT.
About The Film
The movie begins with Mike (Grant Cramer) and Debbie (Suzaane Snyder), your average American teen couple, swapping a little spit at the Crescent Cove's local makeout spot. Their session is interrupted when what is that up in the sky? A falling meteor? Of course they must investigate. In a clearance is not a meteor but a huge circus tent. Be careful kids there is something evil lurking in that tent. After discovering the first cotton candy wrapped victim, the couple knows this is not your average circus tent.
Enters the Killer Klowns. The Klowns have a mission and will stop at nothing to complete that mission. They intend to kill off the townspeople and literally suck the blood out of them for survival. Oh it sounds so simple but the way the Klowns attack their victims is what makes the film. There is nothing more bizarre than death by vicious popcorn or fluffy cotton candy. Once they have you in the cotton candy cocoon (which look a lot like big pink light bulbs hanging on meat hooks after capture), that's all she wrote. You are now a Killer Klown Slurpee complete with crazy straw.
How will Mike and Debbie save their friends and family? Whatever will they do? It certainly won't be easy to convince anyone that huge clowns with gnarly teeth, deformed ears, and grotesque makeup landed in a circus tent with plans to kill everyone! Try convincing Officer Mooney (John Vernon), the Jack Daniels swigging moron. His sidekick Deputy Dave (John Nelson) is barely even worth a mention but he does finally come around and join in the fight. Not to worry though because The Terrenzi brothers, idiotic ice cream vendors, will help stop the evil aliens.
How will they stop these crazed Killer Klowns? If I told you that it would spoil the fun but let's just say the nose knows.
Favorite Scenes
I can't honestly say that I have one single favorite scene. I thought the entire movie was absolutely hilarious. Although it was obviously a very low budget film, I think the Chiodo Brothers did a fabulous job with special effects. These brothers have a truly twisted imagination. What sane person would have thought of death by popcorn that bites? or a balloon hound?
Probably my favorite character in the film is Officer Mooney. He is of course the stereotypical horror flick cop, failing to believe the story and always there to deliver smartass comments. His lines in the film are some of the best in the script including, "this is Mooney speaking. I was a little worried about you, thought the big, bad clowns got you." You might remember seeing Officer Mooney in the flick Animal House as the conniving Dean.
The circus tent, the makeup, the costumes, and the rayguns were all super props that indeed added to the film. The only thing I would have added to the list would have been cherry licorice ropes used by the Killer Klowns to lasso their victims.
Overall Reaction
This is a great movie for a rainy Sunday afternoon with a group of friends. Make sure your friends have an appreciation for ridiculously funny horror films or that you have plenty of alcohol on hand.
I have suggested this film to people and they either love it or hate it.
So which category will you fall under?
