Pros: It made me think about Myth Vs Science
Cons: I don’t think it was supposed to
The Bottom Line: Who better to mix Mythos and Logos than an organization called The Academy Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Arts are Mythos and Sciences are Logos.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals no details about the movie's plot.
"The word mythos in Greek meant "fable," "tale," "talk," or simply "speech," but it came to be used in contrast with logos and historia, thus coming to denote 'that which cannot really exist"
Today we live in a society that mythos has been completely replaced. The bible which has always been part of mythos is being read and interpreted by people who only think in logos. For more on this weighty subject read Battle For God by Karen Armstrong.
While watching Nightlife on my TiVo Digital Video Recorder I could not help thinking about Karens book. We have a scientist (Dr. David Zuckerman, played by Keith Szarabajka) whom treats the lovely female vampire, (Angelique played by Maryam d'Abo) not as a monster of evil but as a person with a blood disorder.
He is fascinated with her disease. He thinks of it has an advanced symbiotic organism and he supplies Angelique with nice clean donated blood. Angeliques old boyfriend locates her, and lets just say Vlad, played by Ben Cross, is not so quick to have his monsterhood taken away by modern science.
There is power in Mythos, explaining evil is something that can only be accomplished by myth. Try using science to advance mythos and you get yourself Hitler and his concentration camps. Try using logic to explain Vlad the Impaler and you loose the power of the story Dracula.
The movie does a great job of mixing myth and logos with a superstitious, Latino house maid that sees Vlad for what he is and take precautions. While at the same time David knows what Vlad is but believes its just a virus and says, virus dont have morals they just are.
Maybe that is true, is an Animal with rabies evil when it bites you? No, its just driven mad by the viruses need to propagate. What if a man is given immortal life and all he needs to do is kill for it, is he evil? In Nightlife the virus drives you crazy with hunger for blood, succumb to that hunger are you evil or just ill.
It is very possible I put way to much thought into such a cheesy movie, but heck I had been trying to save my Windows 2000 machine from having to be formatted and reinstalled so I was feeling philosophical.
