eatmor's Full Review: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
On Her Majesty's Secret Service is what many Bond fans consider to be the best in the series. George Lazenby does the impossible task of replacing Sean Connery as Bond with a more convincing performance than the next two Bonds that come in after Connery. Since this is Lazenby's only performance as Bond, it has a flavor all of its own.
A unique Bond Movie
In this movie, you see a very action-based Bond with wonderful fight scenes that were not as common in the earlier Bond movies. As with any Bond movie, this one has a similar setup: introduce Bond to the assignment, Bond goes to an informant, and Bond meets the villain and gets to figure out what he is doing. What makes this story so different is Tracy Draco the Bond Girl who as her father put it "Needs a man." In exchange for Draco's help, 007 agrees to use his skills in womanizing to tame Tracy. This becomes an adventure in itself and proves to change James Bond as much as Tracy.
The Villain On Her Majesty's Secret Service sends Bond after Ernst Blofeld the leader of SPECTRE. His scheme is top notch Bond movie quality, fitting perfectly as a complex villainous scheme produced by a Bond villain. Blofeld is manipulating girls from every part of the Earth to unleash a germ that could kill everyone on the planet if his demands are not met. His headquarters is a laboratory on top of a private mountaintop in the Swiss Alps.
Action
This movie is full of great Bond action. There are all sorts of fist fights and gun fights, plus a full scale invasion. Not to mention the chase scenes: on skis, on foot through a village, in cars, and more skis. This movie is early Bond action at its best.
Furthermore
Like all the other movies in this series, Bond uses his usual talents. As an expert on everything, Bond goes undercover as a family title specialist. Also, he pumps Blofeld's girls for information, and then there is the flirtatious scenes with Moneypenny. This is a must have for any Bond fan, and a must see for anyone who enjoys a good spy movie.
