Pros: excellent acting, a hidden hit (not many have seen or even heard much about it!)
Cons: tear jerker at times
The Bottom Line: A great hidden hit, a truly touching love story, an insight into the loves of the mentally challenged; all this in one movie, a beautiful mix.
What a wonderful movie. I laughed, I cried... Juliette Lewis and Giovanni Ribisi do a great job portraying such difficult characters. I was quite impressed.
Unfortunately this movie did not receive the credit it’s due when it was in the theaters. In fact it never even came to our local theaters and was hidden amongst other movies (like Star Wars) in the city! Although I must admit that seeing it on video has it’s advantages. For example: I was able to rewind and re-watch some of the funniest footage after I was through, and I was able to cry with abandon with out having to walk out of a crowded theater with puffy eyes.
Though Juliette and Giovanni held the main roles, all the actors involved were amazing (even the mother whom I could not stand in character!) They pieced together a difficult story in a beautiful way. Seeing life through the eyes of two such challenged young adults (and those who surround them) is an experience that no one should miss out on. I’d strongly recommend this to anyone. I, myself, would love to watch it again!
This is a great movie to get in a group of gals, couples, or even family and friends. Since it didn't experience a long running, or very much good coverage while it was running, many haven't even had the opportunity to see the film. Sure to please every taste, this is a sure hit with all!
