Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
After a huge hit, "Waterboy", comes another outrageously funny comedy. Many people liked this movie. He captured the hearts of many more in "Big Daddy".
Sonny Koufax (Adam Sandler) is a law school graduate. He works in a tollbooth, one day a week. Sonny's girlfriend, Vanessa (Kristy Swanson), is annoyed with Sonny's behaviour. He acts like a six-year-old. Vanessa goes to visit her mom. The next day, a five-year-old kid shows up on Sonny's doorstep. The kid gives Sonny a letter that says: Hi! My name is Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse-the twins). I am Kevin Gerrity's (Jon Stewart) son. My mom sent me here because she is very ill. She can't take care of me, so my dad needs to take care of me.
Kevin Gerrity is Sonny's, successful roommate. He left to China. But Sonny really likes Julian, so he calls social services, and says: Hi! I am Kevin Gerrity. I'm his real father. I have decided to adopt Julian. Thank you.
Of course he was hoping that Vanessa would help him take care of Julian. But Vanessa comes back with a 60-year-old man. Sonny's life is ruined. He's got no girlfriend, and he wants to give Julian back to social services. When Sonny got to social services, he said: I'm a bogus father, and he deserves a better family. But then, Julian runs up to Sonny, and shows him that he tied his shoes all by himself (which is something Sonny taught him to do). So Sonny thought it was cute, and decided to hang on to Julian.
In the time that Sonny does have Julian, he hangs out with him, and teaches him all kinds of "cool" things. Sonny teaches him how to pee on walls, how make skateboarders fall down, and how to hit people with a stick in the butt. When they go to the park, Sonny sees this nice girl named Layla (Joey Lauren Adams). Sonny really wants her, so he uses Julian (and his cute looks) to get Layla to hang out with him tonight. Sonny made a new girlfriend.
Sonny hangs out with his two friends, he talks to them about how great it is having a kid, and then Sonny says: I let him make the right choice. I don't want to control him. Sonny asked Julian, what do you want to do tomorrow? Julian says: I want to go to school! Of course Julian becomes the joke of the school: he smells like a foot, he doesn't listen to the teachers, he pees inside plants, when he spills glue, he covers it with newspapers, and much more. But then it came time to parent/teacher interview. The teacher was not happy with Julian. That's when Sonny decides to take control. He then, teaches Julian how to do things right. For the first time, since Sonny received Julian, he showered, he dressed properly, he ate properly, he was being polite to people and he learned how to read.
The social worker arrived at Sonny's house. The social worker found out that Sonny wasn't Kevin, and took Julian away from him.
Sonny ended up in court for kidnapping. In court, all his buddies were there. Every single one of his buddies helped him out, but that wasn't enough. He needed an enemy to speak. And even Corrine (Leslie Mann), said that Sonny seemed like a great father. Now, there was only one man that thought Sonny shouldn't have the kid: Sonny's father, Lenny Koufax. Lenny was the most respected lawyer in Florida. He was a tough nut. He almost convinced the judge that Sonny shouldn't have the child. But then, Sonny was even better than his dad. He convinced the judge that he should have the kid. And that was the most convincing sentence I've ever heard.
Kevin came back from China, and he was at Sonny's court case, and Kevin ended up getting Julian. Sonny and Julian, were now good friends.
I really recommend Big Daddy to anybody over 13 years old. There is a lot of cursing. It's a great movie. But it's still better to watch it than to hear about how good it is.
