Well.... (Reply to this comment)

I think the opening paragraph definetly grabbs my attention yet it is a little too long. I had to skip the ending.
Otherwise, it was a descent review.

Shouldn't it be "Girls will be boys"? (Reply to this comment)
by Stephen_Murray, in Movies
There is the usual (in your reviews) useful information on DVD transfer, but, in addition to the title, I'm bothered by the claim that (a) Cher is a gay community icon and (b) that reveals something about Brandon Teena.
There are certainly some who find Cher a valiant survivor freak, but I doubt that very many of these are lesbian (which seems to be how you understand Brandon Teena) or FTM transgenders. It also seems very unlikely that Brandon Teena identified with or wanted to be like Cher. A female impersonator might, but someone wanting to pass as male? I think not. Are you trying to argue that Brandon Teena was a gay man trapped in a woman's body?

Simple, Not Simple Minded (Reply to this comment)

I think Bill is mistaken when it comes to the simple-mindedness of the story. There is so much emotional turmoil for both protagonist and antagonists, that anymore layers added to the already heavily-layered film would be more than one could handle without starting to disbelieve the tale.
