Adele August is a middle-aged wannabe, who leaves her hometown Bay City, Wisconsin to pursue her dreams of Hollywood stardom for her
daughter and a posh Beverly-Hills life for herself.
But fourteen year old Ann wants nothing of it. She s a good student, wants to go to college back east, loves Bay City and her folks that include her grandma, step dad, her best friend and particularly her cousin Benny.
Now mommy must have it her way, straining their relationship even further.
Ann cannot stand her mother and is always contemplating running away, but can she ?
The movie is about a mother-daughter love hate relationship..its about two women who dont get along as they have different goals, ambitions and perspective, yet love each other so much, they wont leave one another.
Love lives through the entire movie and triumphs in the end..as you will see.
Susan Sarandon and Natalie Portman are amazing. Susan is one of the most talented actresses ever. If you thought her performance in "Step-mom" was good, you must see this one. Natalie is doing extremely well with her character roles, for her tender age. Its a very tight film and credit goes to directors Wayne Wang and Roger Deakins.
I waited to watch this movie on video, as watching it in a theatre would not really have been worth the bucks, as it doesnt have the "special effects". But this one is bound to move your heart on a quiet Sunday evening.
It will be worth-while to check out the novel written by Mona Simpson and adapted by Alvin Sargent.
