If you have kids, you saw the trailer for this one months in advance...the perilous egg journey over hill and dale, though streams, over canyons, across the sea...
That was only the beginning!
This is the first movie my 5 year old daughter and I have seen in a theatre, and, I think, the first movie I've seen on opening weekend since...yikes, I'm dating myself...the first Star Wars movie. Not that ancient history is important here, but it helps to put things in perspective...this movie is a "one of a kind" gem, and is destined to become an instant Disney Classic.
You'll hear alot about the plot (self-sufficiency, helping those in need, tolerance), some good and some bad. Let's face it...the storyline is designed for 10-14 year olds, it has to be relatively simple. You'll hear alot about the violence (dinos catching and eating dinos), but these are natural acts, relatively easy to explain. Try explaining the violence of Peter Pan (why do men want to kill men?), or Bambi, or Little Mermaid (boy, that octo-lady is mean!).
This is typical Disney...enough action to thrill the toy buying set, enough storyline to thrill all ages, and some great lines to keep the adults' attention.
Then, you have...
The visual effects.
WOW.
This movie is so well animated, it can take your breath away. Anyone with any sense of how computers work will be awestruck by the power that must have been brought to bear on this project. Anyone with no knowledge of computers at all will be amazed how far animation has come since individually colored cels. The beauty is expressed in a different way, the frames are not the result of painstakingly applied brush strokes, but are expressions of art and technology so intricately woven that I couldn't help but feel that I was in the presence of genius.
Okay, get real, its only a movie right? Well, yes...but...put it up there with Fantasia for it's groundbreaking use of the latest technology, with Tarzan for it's conflict and impact, and...Lion King for it's "merchandisability". No cute songs, but have you seen the McDonald's puppets?
Join the action-packed adventure of a group of dinosaurs overcoming enormous challenges through courage, loyalty and hope in Disney s Dinosaur, a spec...More at Buy.com Marketplaces
