This movie is closer to the spirit of its comic predecessor than any movie of its type before it, except the first Batman and Superman movies, of course. The only thing holding back this movie from production earlier in the 90's and 80's was effects. just now are we able do come close to what is depicted within the pages of Marvel Comics' X-Men titles each month. It also has a great plot, too. It may come off as a little cheesy at first, but it is still written very well, taken seriously, and not like the last few Batman movies did.
The heroes (and villains) of this movie are treated like outcasts from normal society, just because their genes are different from those around them. One of the main characters from the film, Rogue (Anna Paquin) is affected by this more so- her skin can not come in contact with other people's skin, or else she starts to absorb their energy, and memories. Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman, who was BORN for this part), while he looks normal on the outside, really has a skeleton coated with the hardest metal to exist (in comics, anyway), adamantium, and metal claws that come out of his hands. he also has an incredibly fast healing rate, so it appears as if he never gets hurt.
The action scenes in this movie are great! When Logan first popped his claws, a chill went up my spine. THIS was the movie I had been waiting to see since elementary school! All of the actors portrayed their parts excellently (or should I say X-cellently?)! Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan have some of the best scenes in the movie, when they face off with each other about their ideals.
Some of the characters should have had larger parts than they did. But, I am to understand that the director (Bryan Singer) had to cut out A LOT of this movie, because only the comic book geeks (like myself, I work in a comic book store on weekends) would have found those scenes interesting. Everyone plays their parts well, no matter how many line they may have. At no point in this movie did I feel bored with it, or become distracted with something else in the theater, as is the case with some movies that I have seen, and all the scenes feel as if they do fit in and are relevant to the plot.
