Pros: A hugely entertaining film which works despite itself.
Cons: The film should be about their relationship, but Hannibal is too charismatic...

Shall we Blame Scott and Moore? (Reply to this comment)
by Lagavulin
I thoroughly enjoyed your analysis and presentation. Although you don't explicitly say it, I think that we agree that it is the lack of 'romantic chemistry' between Hopkins and Moore that makes this a lesser movie than The Silence of the Lambs. Ridley Scott does a great job of creating Hannibal's dark look and disturbing mood, and of sustaining the quick pace, suspense and disturbing mood. But he fails to draw from Moore a performance that conveys the psychological impact of Lecter's tauntings on Starling. I like how you contrasted that with Hopkins success in amplifying Lecter's charisma relative to SOTL.

Great review.

Sounds like it's at least worth seeing once. I could see it going either way, so I wanted to make sure it was at least a little worth it before shelling out the $8. Thank you.
