Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie's plot.
The Halloween series certainly has evolved over the years. From Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) fighting her way out of a closet in the original Halloween to Laurie Strode fighting her way out of a mental institution in Halloween: Resurrection.
Okay, so maybe there's not much evolution here, but this latest installment is a great new film to add to the horror/slasher category. Nothing totally original, but entertaining enough to see at matinee price.
The story begins with Laurie Strode in a mental institution. She was place there shortly after the events of Halloween H20 (the previous installment of the series). In the previous film we learned that the man we thought to be Michael Myers, whom Laurie decapitated, was really just a paramedic; that it was a setup. She is so guilt ridden that she ends up in the asylum. Well there is one surprise at the beginning of the film but that's all I will say.
Moving on the the main premise for the slashings. A bunch of teens (the names of them you forget after the first ten minutes, including the one of the protaginist) are chosen to stay in the house where Michael Myers lived as a child. Well they have cameras hooked up to the internet over a live feed, and as dark comes all hell breaks loose, you know the rest of the story.
There are a few notable actors appearing in the film: Sean Patrick Thomas, doing well as usual; Jamie Lee Curtis, only for a short portion of the film, but is better than all of the other actors combined; and then there is Tyra Banks, flashing her sexy body.
I have to say that as a lover of horror films I sincerely enjoyed this movie. All the right elements were there for a horror film and the acting wasn't half as bad as most, especially with what the actors were given for a script. I think part of the reason scripts for horror movies are mow written so poorly is that the writers don't believe they can get any good actors to fill the parts, so they think, why try?
The only other complaint I have about the film is the lighting. I know there are not going to be overhead lights in an abandoned house, and that flashlights will have to do, but still it is a little too dim, but it's not that bad.
The theme music is sounding better than ever in this music and it warms your heart as you hear it at the beginning wondering who dies first. (Sadistic isn't it?)
The deaths in this movie are not original by a longshot, but still fun to see if you like that kind of things. It delivers a good amount of suspense, and the ending leave definite room for a sequal.
Don't pay full price to see this, but see it while it is still on the big screen. I recommend a matinee. ENJOY!
