If you are considering collecting several Doris Wishman films, this might be a good way to begin.
Doris Wishman made 30 films between 1959 and her last film just completed principal photography when she died in 2002 at the age of 90 !!!
All of Wishman's movies were very low-budget. You get 3 Wishman movies and a decent low budget b movie from 1958 directed under a psuedonym by Edgar G. Ulmer called Naked Venus.
Diary of a Nudist and Blaze Starr Goes Nudist are two examples of Wishman Nudie Cutie films. These films have footage shot in Florida nudist colonies. There's no sexual couplings, but lots of naked people (no genitalia is shown) walking, swimming, playing volleyball, picking flowers, and on the trampoline too !!!
In DIARY a good looking female reporter is sent to a nudist camp because her editor wants a negative expose on the place. The reporter however winds up enjoying herself and writing a positive piece about the camp. The editor fires her and decides to do the story himself. Guess what happens?
Blaze Starr was a famous stripper who had an affair with Earl Long the governor of Louisianna in the 1950s. They made a movie about it with Paul Newman and Lolita Davidovich in 1989.
In Wishman's movie from 1962 the real Blaze Starr gets away from the pressures of being a famous stripper with a greasy haired control freak manager by running off to a nudist colony on weekends or when she just wants to get away. She slips off her clothes, finds herself liking the accordion playing camp counselor, and jumps in the pool, does naked checkers, chess and archery too. What fun!!!
Deadly Weapons is a garish 70's movie featuring a once famous polish stripper known as Chesty Morgan. She had 73" breasts. You won't believe your eyes. Properly supported they defy description. Often you see them in this film as sagging, gross looking bags of flesh. The movie is utterly ridiculous. Chesty plays Crystal who tries to get revenge on the mob for killing her boyfriend. She kills people by smothering them in her large breasts !!! The acting is horrible, the dialogue ridiculous. You'll see horrible clothes, shag carpeting, 70's tackiness at it's worst. Wishman saved money by dubbing the dialogue after she was done filming. She often has shots of people who aren't talking, and of feet, ashtrays, lamps and coffee tables. Why? So she didn't have to worry about the dubbed dialogue matching anyone's lips. Thrifty and smart. Oh and Harry Reems the male porn star of Deep Throat has a supporting role.
If this sounds like something so bad, you have simply got to see it for yourself AND you want to show people this ridiculous film---THEN you might need to actually own it.
Also on these DVDs are extras. You get an actual good low budget b movie called Naked Venus, directed by Edgar G. Ulmer who made movies like Detour and Bluebeard and The Black Cat. He knows how to use the camera quite effectively. There are also good actors and a somewhat interesting story involving a marriage on the rocks. More than half the movie is a tense courtroom drama.
In the extras you'll also get trailers for other nudist camp and Doris Wishman films. You get shorts--some in color, some in black and white. You get a nudist camp propaganda film from the 1930s arguing that nudism is good for you and very American!!! You get an art gallery of tacky exploitation posters and radio spots advertising Nudist camps (I never heard of such things on the radio... but apparantly they had such a thing on some radio stations.
