Season One of Monk
Introduction
I could say a lot about awards and great reviews, but who cares about that. Monk is an entertaining series because of its uniqueness. It is a subtle comedy and detective series all in one. Season One is great because you get an understanding of who Monk is. He is a former police detective who had a breakdown causing his obsessive compulsive behavior to come through dominating his life. However, three years after his breakdown, he gets a personal assistant who happens to be a former nurse and begins private consulting to police on homicide cases. His obsessive compulsive behavior becomes a real asset to being a detective.
His Problems
His problems are hilarious because at some level we can all relate to them. For example, he walks through a spider web and completely freaks out until every last bit of the web is off him. This is just one of his mania phobias with the greatest being germ phobic. His character really brings to life some of the odd thoughts everyone thinks but rarely acts on. Such as, have you ever shaken someone's hand and felt like washing your hand afterwards. Adrian Monk simply takes a wet wipe from his assistant.
His Cases
What makes Monk so entertaining is the elaborate cases he is brought in to solve. They are imaginative, exciting, and suspenseful. For example, how does a bed ridden obese man kill a woman from across town? Monk always puts it together.
