BryRrose's Full Review: Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus Graphic Calculator
I bought this calculator for my daughter three years ago. It was something that she had to have for math class. When we went to back to school night and the teacher told us that our children would be needing this $ 100.00 calculator, I think I had to pick my husband up off the floor. "Who needs a calculator that expensive!" Well, it was the best $ 100.00 we ever spent.
Our daughter has used the calculator for math and science. Now her sister is using it, thank goodness the teacher has not upgraded the calculator.
This calculator is a small little brain that my children can carry in their backpacks. My daughter says, "It does everything."
Functions of the TI-83 are:
* Plotting and Graphing
* Data Analysis
* Programmable to allow you to write your own equations
* Matrices you can store up to 10
* Financing Keys
* Equation Solver
* Program Games
* Linkable to other TI83 to share data
The calculator is black in color. It has a protective shield that acts as a case. Currently the case is offered in a variety of colors. This feature wasn't offered when we bought our calculator. The calculator is about four inches in width by seven inches in length. It is approximately one inch thick. It is larger than most calculators but it packs a lot of punch in the information area.
One problem we have had with the calculator is theft. My daughter has had two friends who had theirs stolen at school. One from her backpack and one from their locker. My daughter is very cautious and does not allow hers out of her sight. We engraved her name on it to help protect against theft.
The calculator uses four AAA batteries and a back-up battery to save stored data when you switch batteries. The back-up battery looks like a watch battery. When the battery runs low the calculator lets you know it is time for a battery change.
The calculator also has a letter/alphabet system. My daughter has used this to write her friends letters in math class. (Not the intended purpose)!
The calculator has been a great value and my daughter strongly recommends it.
