plover12's Full Review: Fellowes Powershred® PS80C-2 Shredder
We've had a Fellowes PS80C-2 for a couple of years and hardly used it. About a month ago, I finally decided to shred some documents from a deceased relative, and at first, the shredder worked okay. I won't accept anywhere near the advertised 10-page max, and as mentioned in other reviews, the paper tilts and folds up on itself when passing through the shredder. Staples can cause it to jam. I had the best results when limiting it to three pages or less. Regular oiling was pretty easy.
Then, in the middle of shredding some papers tonight, the thing just died on me. It started making a squealing noise, like a belt was slipping, and the cutting blades stopped. My husband and I took the head off and cleared out any bits of paper, and we took the cover off the head to see if something was jammed inside. Turns out that the gears on this thing are plastic and one of them is stripped. There's a big blank spot on the gear now.
What really ticks me off is that I wasn't shredding ANYTHING heavy duty. I took good care of the shredder, gave it recommended regular oilings, kept it cleaned out, and didn't overburden it. Now it's trashed and I don't know if Fellowes will send me a part or direct me to an expensive repair. At any rate, I'm really unimpressed with this shredder.
